NEWBIA Minutes 01/04/07

The meetings morning program was presented by Joe Nagan of Home Building Technology Services. Joe’s presentation gave a review of the UDC ventilation requirements and building HVAC issues related to the code. Included where a number of new products and applications on the market. A demonstration of ventilation ducting and exhaust heads was made showing the performance of various component types. This program was accredited for 2-hours of UDC HVAC continuing education credits. The group broke for lunch @ 12:30PM.

The business meeting was called to order by President Peter Fetters at 1:34PM. The minutes for the December 2006 where approved by the group. Peter reported that the treasurer’s report will be submitted by Treasurer Rob Cormier at the next scheduled regular meeting on March 01 2007, as there will be no February meeting due to the 2007 Winter Code Updates.

Leroy Stublaski of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce reviewed some of the training continuing education opportunities available. Further information on available programs is available on the Department of Commerce web site. Leroy also reported that the Department of Commerce is no longer in charge of the distribution of seals, various forms and applications. The new order forms for ordering these items may be obtained on the Wisconsin Department of Commerce web site.

He further reported that the 2007 revision of the Uniform Dwelling Code has been completed and is scheduled for printing by June 2007. The changes in the UDC will be reviewed at the 2007 Winter Code Updates.

As of January 01 2007 all installers of HUD homes must hold a HUD Home Installer Certification. The installers are issued a certification card bearing their identification number. No permits should be issued without verifying this certification.

Peter Fetters reported that the group has several vacancies in its committees. A new person is needed to take over the position of Winter Updates Registration Coordinator. There is also a position available on the Nominations Committee. Interested parties should contact Peter and express their interest.

Secretary Jon Oldenburg questioned the group as to their wishes to reschedule the annual August Environmental Meeting to be held again in Little Chute. A motion was made, seconded and approved to hold the annual Environmental Meeting in Little Chute. The date will be August 10 2007.

Ray Weber of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce Electrical Inspections Division reported that the 2008 National Electrical Code is in the process of final approvals and is set to be in place nationally on January 01 2008. Wisconsin will have to review the 2008 NEC and adopt an amended Commerce 16 Electrical Code adopting the 2008 NEC. This may be completed by June 2008. Grounding and bonding issues on CSST flexible gas pipe where discussed. A print out of this information is attached.

A round table discussion was held. The afternoon business meeting was adjourned at 2:25PM.

There will be no February 2007 NEWBIA Meeting due to Winter 2007 Code Updates. The next regular NEWBIA Meeting shall be March 01 2007 at the Comfort Suites W7393 River Bend Road Shawano WI @ 9:00AM. Our speaker shall be Michael VerHaggen of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. He will be addressing structural steel issues.
